Got any Scripture to Support That?

This week I was sort of questioned by someone about my preference in music. I assume from her email that she thinks my particular stylistic preference is wrong -in contrast to hers- because I listen to "Christian Rock" and not Southern Gospel music exclusively. I will not go into much more detail, except that I tried to get my her to see that her position was simply a form of Legalism and it could not be supported with Scripture.

As a Calvinist, I am dedicated to the Reformation principle of "Sola Scriptura" - or Scripture Alone. This means I take the Scripture alone as my inerrant rule of faith and practice. While I do not reject all "traditions", I do examine them in light of Scripture to make sure they are Bible based. I am convinced that my life in Christ is not dependent upon someone else making a list of extra-Biblical rules and regulations for me to follow, so as to comply with their opinions of what a Christian ought to be. In years past, I was guilty of being a very legalistic Christian, therefore I know first-hand the ugliness and the spirit behind legalism.

So as a warning to those who may not like what I stand for; or for those who may not like my personal preferences in music, clothes, food, hairstyle, or whatever... Please be sure (if you feel it needful to correct me on my personal preferences) that you are standing on a sound theological basis derived from God's Word and not your legalistic traditions or personal preferences. Do not expect me to cave into some legalistic nonsense. Legalism is an affront to the Christian liberty of conscience and I will do battle against it as quickly as any other heresy.

Sola Scriptura!
