Paul Washer: Youth Conference Sermon

Probably the greatest sermon ever preached at any youth event anywhere in the Southern Baptist Convention, and it's said he wasn't invited back! Oh how far the SBC has fallen!!

Dan Barker: Apostate Faith Healer

Meet Dan Barker... He used to work with Kathryn Kuhlman, the mentor of Benny Hinn. Ironically, he has changed his mind about God and now he's an Atheist...

The clip is from the DVD "The Case for Atheism - There Isn't One" available from www.livingwaters.com . You can view the promo for the DVD here.

Todd Friel is the host of Way of The Master Radio -which I highly recommend!

Hypocrisy in Florida!

In the state of Florida, if you are deprived of the opportunity to murder your unborn (handicapped) child, you can now win millions in court!!

Read all about it!

Just don't kill a dog in Florida:

Who's the REAL Hate Group??

A few weekends ago, I was doing some searching on the net. Somehow I came across the website of the Southern Poverty Law Center. The SPLC was founded by Morris Dees and Joe Levin, in order to work for "civil rights" during the 70's. In addition to tracking hate groups, these days the SPLC is into promoting "tolerance" -and apparently, destroying anything that's good and moral in the world also....

As I was looking around their website, I saw something that disturbed me: on their "hate map" and on a page listing hate groups active in 2006, they have a ministry known as American Vision listed as a "general hate group"!!

When I saw AV listed, I really got concerned! I mean really, American Vision (AV), a hate group? What are these people smoking!!?? I've read books by AV's president, Gary DeMar; I've read AV's monthly magazine from cover to cover for 6 months; I read their daily emails; and I even have a 12 part DVD series featuring Gary DeMar speaking on eschatology, but I have NEVER seen one sentence that would lead me to think that the folks at American Vision hate anybody!

I suspect what draws AV fire from the SPLC is their firm stance against abortion, homosexuality and the godless worldview embraced by Liberals in America. AV is no hate group. All I can see from coming from them indicates to me that they are a Christian ministry dedicated to the truth of Scripture, therefore, I suspect that's why the SPLC fears their ideas so much.

You see, though the SPLC may do some good by tracking real hate groups such as the KKK and Neo-Nazis, I think time will show that the SPLC is going to increasingly focus it's attention upon Christian groups -and individual Christians- who take a firm stand upon the teaching of Scripture, morality, or a propose politically incorrect view of American History.

If you ask me, it appears as if the the SPLC has appointed itself to be America's thought police. So, watch out, if you or your organization doesn't subscribe to their popular liberal, Socialist agenda, you are fair game for a spot on their "hate map" and an "intelligence report" being sent to law enforcement with your organization's name on it.

The SPLC's libel of American Vision has been addressed in an article by Gary DeMar. In that article he writes:

"American Vision must be doing something right. We have been targeted by a number of anti-Christian groups because of our stance on homosexuality. We find ourselves in the company of Focus on the Family, American Family Association, Alliance Defense Fund, Coral Ridge Ministries, Concerned Women for America, Family Research Council, Family Research Institute, and other pro-family groups. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), run by its co-founder Morris Dees, has listed us as a “hate group” under the “other” category on their website. In fact, if you add up all the people in America who support any of the above ministries, the number would be in the millions."

American Vision is not the only benevolent group being labeled/libeled a "hate group." The SPLC even seems to be be setting it's sights the Sons of Confederate Veterans -an organization to which I personally belong-which is no hate group, but rather an honorable organization dedicated to "the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved."

Granted, I cannot personally vouch that all 30,000+ members of the SCV are free from racist attitudes (nor could I vouch for that with all the members of the Southern Baptist Convention, the NAACP, or the Boy Scouts!) but I do know that as an organization, the commitments of the SCV have nothing to do with hate or race, but everything to do with heritage and preservation of history (for the record, the SCV has "non-white" members!).

Pastors, don't dismiss the SPLC threat too quickly... I can almost assure you that the SPLC is lobbying Congress to ensure your sermons about homosexuality will soon be labeled "hate speech." If that happens, you can spend time behind bars for simply teaching what the Bible says about homosexuality or other sins that are in vogue these days. You see, the SPLC doesn't want to lynch people. No, no, there's not enough money to be gained from that! The SPLC only wants to raise lots of money, file civil lawsuits, and eventually have everyone put in jail who violates the "tolerant" worldview that they want everyone to be subjected to...

The bottom line is this: The SPLC is fueled by an anti-Christian Liberal agenda and will stop at nothing to silence anyone who believes the Bible too much, waives a Confederate Flag too high, or believes that a family consists of one husband, one wife, and "2.3 children." I believe in time to come -unless the Lord grants a great revival and turns the tide of things in the U.S.- Christians in our nation may increasingly find themselves the targets of harassment from secular thought police such as the SPLC.

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." (John 15:18-19 KJV)

(I originally posted this article on my Confederate Chaplain blog. I checked the hit counter a day or two later and I found that my blog had been visited by an SPLC computer in Montgomery, AL.!! I'm sure this article got their attention, so don't be surprised if you see Rhett's Rants and The Conferate Chaplain listed on an SPLC "Intelligence Report" in the near future! The way I see it, if the SPLC has enough time on it's hands to be tracking somebody like me, then I reckon there's not much real hate left in the world afterall!)

Not a Satire...

I love good satire.

While the article I am about to link to might read like something from Tominthebox, it's not satire at all -it's for real!

Click to here to read the news article entitled, "I am both Muslim and Christian"

This is worse than Ergun Caner's "I'm not Arminian; I'm not Calvinist; I'm a Baptist" confession...

The Reprobate Celebrate

I'll be the first to admit that I had some serious theological disagreements with Jerry Falwell, especially when it came to the Doctrines of Grace. However, when I heard that he had passed away, I did not celebrate...

Yet, from what I gather, some groups are having "anti-memorials" to celebrate the death of Jerry Falwell and to continue to talk trash about him. This behavior further shows how reprobate these people truly are. I believe Dr. Falwell hated no one. He was simply taking a stand, a bold stand, for what the Bible says about homosexuality.
In Ezekiel 33:11, the Bible tells us that God has "no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live." So while God himself does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked, we now see the wicked taking pleasure in the death of a man of God!!
America: Take note about who the "haters" really are!
May God have mercy on their souls...

I must be a Libertarian

In the video below, please pay careful attention to what the Representative has to say about the so-called American Civil War. Not many people have a clue about what actually took place in the 1860's. Rep. Paul hits the nail on the head!!

Listen as Maher, who claims to be a Libertarian, cleary demonstrates his Socialist belief that the State is the Messiah of us all...

Yes, Bill, You truly are "Chairman Mao" in comparison to a true lover of freedom!

If Congressman Ron Paul is a "Libertarian," then sign me up today!

A Perversion of Perseverance

Of all the doctrines I ever despised in the past, the doctrine of Eternal Security, or "Once Saved, Always Saved," had to be at the top of the list.

I can remember teaching Sunday school during my days in the Church of God of Prophecy, ranting and raving about how Baptists in particular "believe a person can get saved and live like the devil for the rest of their life and still go to Heaven."

To make matters worse, I could look around and see plenty of examples of Baptist folks who were not living up to the faith they professed on Sunday morning. I had seen people who professed faith in Jesus and later became hard hearted "backsliders," therefore I had all the evidence I needed to repudiate the doctrine of Eternal Security -or so I thought....

When I finally decided to investigate the doctrine of Eternal Security, it was because I saw some things in Scripture that I couldn't reconcile with my old semi-Pelagian theology. I began a journey to seek after truth, instead of what fit the mold of my theological tradition. I wanted to understand why seemingly decent Christian people believed that their salvation was eternally secure, while others seemed to use it as a cloak for their sinful living.

I began my search to understand Eternal Security by getting a copy of Charles Stanley's Eternal Security: Can You Be Sure?. I had thought Stanley would be a good source because much of what I had heard him teach sounded okay. As I read his book, some of the arguments made sense to me. Some almost convinced me. Then I hit a big snag...

The snag was in chapter 8. It was there that I could no longer follow Stanley's line of reasoning. You see, in chapter 8, Stanley argues that once a person has made a profession of faith, the person can go as far as totally losing all faith in Christ and yet be Heaven bound!

Stanley compares salvation with getting a tattoo:

"If I choose to have a tattoo put on my arm, that would involve a one-time act on my part. Yet the tattoo would remain with me indefinitely. I don't have to have to maintain an attitude of fondness of for tattoos to ensure that the tattoo remains on my arm. In fact I may change my mind the minute I receive it. But that does not change the fact that I have a tattoo on my arm. My request for the tattoo and the tattoo itself are two entirely different things. I received it by asking and paying for it, But asking for my money back and changing my attitude will not undo what is done. Forgiveness/salvation is applied at the moment of faith. And its permanence is not contingent upon the permanence of one's faith."

Before I was a Baptist I rejected such theology and now that I am a Baptist I still reject such theology!!! In my opinion, this sort of nonsense is why the Southern Baptist Convention has millions of absentee members as well as churches full of false converts!

If Dr. Stanley's theory is true, then even Dan Barker, the faith healing evangelist turned apostate God hating atheist, is just as bound for Heaven as the most God fearing saint alive! Stanley's theology is pure Antinomianism. It's nothing more than "Easy believe-ism," plain and simple. Thankfully, I was able to find out that Stanley's version of Perseverance is not in line with the Bible, nor with historic Baptist theology. It is a perversion of perseverance.

Salvation is in no way analogous with getting a tattoo! A tattoo is only skin deep, but Biblical salvation is a work that takes place in the very soul of a man. For God himself tells us "a new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them." (Eze 36:26-27)

Salvation is not a "one time act" on our part: it's a new beginning! It's the temporal realization of what God planned to do in the life of an individual sinner in eternity past! It's a New birth! A life changing experience! Though Stanley's doctrine allows for a person to totally apostatize and eventually be saved, the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith says something quite a bit different:

"And though they may, through the temptation of Satan and of the world, the prevalency of corruption remaining in them, and the neglect of means of their preservation, fall into grievous sins, and for a time continue therein, whereby they incur God's displeasure and grieve his Holy Spirit, come to have their graces and comforts impaired, have their hearts hardened, and their consciences wounded, hurt and scandalize others, and bring temporal judgments upon themselves, yet shall they renew their repentance and be preserved through faith in Christ Jesus to the end." (LBCF 17:3) emphasis added

Stanley believes a person can totally lose his or her faith and still persevere, yet historic Baptist teaching says despite their shortfalls, the believer will be "preserved through faith in Christ Jesus to the end!!!" Quite a difference if you ask me!

Stanley's version of Eternal Security denies that God is "able keep [us] from falling, and to present [us] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy! (Jude 24) It overlooks the fact that we "are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Peter 1:5). Once a person has truly met Jesus Christ, they can never be the same. Apostates and those who forsake Christ for "another gospel" show that they were never truly saved to begin with! (1 John 2:19) "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new!" (1 Cor 5:17)

Our security is not based upon our ability to hang on and hold on, but rather we are secure because God is working to "make [us] perfect in every good work to do His will, working in [us] that which is wellpleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ." (Heb 13:21) God has not saved us so that we can live like the devil and abuse his marvelous Grace, but on the contrary, "we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Eph 2:10)

R.C. Sproul sums up my position well:

"The perseverance of the saints could more accurately be called the preservation of the saints... The believer does not persevere through the power of his unaided will. God's preserving grace makes our perseverance both possible and actual. Even the regenerated person with a liberated will is still vulnerable to sin and temptation, and the residual power of sin is so strong that without the aid of grace the believer would, in all probability, fall away. But God's decree is immutable. His sovereign purpose to save his elect from the foundation of the world is not frustrated by our weakness"

Rejoice dear reader! For if you have been truly saved, you can be "confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ!!!" (Phil 1:6)

Soli Deo Gloria!

Ok, I'll admit it. I'm Prejudice...

...Against HYPOCRITES that is!!!

That's why I'm sick and tired of the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson and the "Reverend" Al Sharpton!!!

The fact these guys even use the title "Reverend" is a sham. I have never seen either of these men on TV speaking about people's need of salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Both have made racist statements themselves, but do not seem to think there's anything wrong with it when they do it...

I am of the opinion that it the race problems in our nation can only be solved when people's hearts have been changed by the Holy Spirit through salvation which is in Jesus Christ. To my knowledge, neither Jackson nor Sharpton preach such a message. Actually, it looks to me like they would rather continue to cause racial division instead of work to bring true reconciliation through the Gospel.

You know, it might even be that they really aren't interested in true racial harmony; because if we were to ever achive that dream, these two fellows might actually have to go get a real job!

Yes, Don Imus made a racist remark. Yes, it was wrong. Even if it was in the name of humor, I won't try to defend him. He apologized and now his employers have fired him. Imus has enough money and enough connections that I'm sure he'll survive this ordeal and probably come back stronger than ever once it passes -probably on Satellite radio.

If the two "Reverends" really want to scold somebody guilty of making denigrating remarks about black women, they ought to set their sights on Rap and Hip-Hop artists... But, as history has shown, they will ignore things like that.

No doubt, Sharpton and Jackson will rejoice that Don Imus has been brought down, then they'll wait in the shadows until another famous Caucasian lets a racist slur slip from his/her mouth. All the while they will overlook the same behavior from themselves and other African-Americans.

Gluttons Against Winebibbers

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. -Proverbs 23:21 KJV

I think I smell hypocrisy...

The Southern Baptist Convention recently passed "Resolution #5" which is a broad condemnation of the manufacture, sale, and drinking of alcohol. I have already addressed this issue in a previous post, but in light of some things that have recently come to my attention, I want to rant about it again.

I think many Christians in America would applaud the recent actions by our denomination, but I believe Resolution 5 is very hypocritical. The reason I make this statement is because studies have shown that Southern Baptists are leading the way in the United States in regards to being overweight and obese!! My wife recently sent me links to some shocking articles that discuss theses facts. You can read those articles here, here, and here.
So while many Southern Baptists are patting themselves on the back for taking a stand against this "pet sin" that probably only a minority of Baptists actually partake in: they are flat ignoring the fact that a majority of Baptists are sinning by committing gluttony with food. If you noticed the passage of Scripture above, you'll see that gluttons are no better than drunkards! Both types of overindulgence are sinful!
So, what we really have here is a bunch of gluttons trying to take the motes out of the eyes of the winebibbers; all the while ignoring the beams stuck in their own eyes -and the two pieces of fried chicken stuck their own mouths!

Now I have to admit, I cannot get too self-righteous on this topic, because I am among that group of Southern Baptists who needs to shed a few pounds -about 20 actually. What got my attention about my health is when I had my cholesterol checked a few weeks back and my numbers came back about twice as high as they ought to be! It shocked me and made me do some serious thinking. I am now taking steps -through diet and exercise- to try and correct this problem before I end up just like my father who died from coronary artery disease at the age of 39 -despite being very slim and fairly active!

What I find amazing is that even though many Baptists would condemn a person for having a glass of wine with supper, adding red wine to a person's diet has been shown to be beneficial to reducing cholesterol levels! Seeing as though so many Baptists have weight problems, I'd have to guess that they probably have cholesterol problems as well. Perhaps then, a good thing for Southern Baptists to do would be to eat less food and drink red wine!

Instead of picking out "pet sins" to pass resolutions on, I suggest the SBC -as a whole- get serious about its collective health. If we really believe our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, we need to start acting like it! It's hypocritical to go around condemning folks for "defiling the temple" with tobacco and alcohol, while we are busy stretching the temple ourselves!
"Come, come, good wine is a good familiar creature, if it be well used: exclaim no more against it." -SHAKESPEAR, OTHELLO, ACT 2, SCENE 3

Evangelistic Motivation

How many people did you personally talk to about Salvation and Jesus Christ in 2006?

I'm not talking about preaching from a pulpit, inviting someone to a church function, "lifestyle evangelism", or writing a blog about the need for salvation; I am talking about genuine witnessing. Was it 1000? Maybe 100? 50? How about just 10...?

If the statistics are correct, the majority of so-called Evangelical Christians reading this blog probably didn't share the Gospel with very many people lat all ast year. Even worse, there will be some reading who didn't share the Gospel at all...

Dear Christian, why didn't you witness to more people last year? Was it due to fear of rejection? Were you just too proud? Perhaps you didn't know what to say? Maybe you just don't feel you have the "gift" of evangelism?

What if I promised you that for the next 12 months, I will give you $50.00 for every Gospel tract you hand out and $500.00 for every person that you personally witness to about Jesus Christ? Would that motivate you to do more if I could afford to pay you that much? How many tracts do you think you could give out in one week making 50 bucks each? How many people would you chase down the street each day if I would pay you $500 to witness to them personally? --I bet it would be more than you did in the past 12 months!!

Isn't it ironic that we as Christians can get jobs working as salespersons, aggravate people with multilevel marketing schemes, and do all sorts of things to make money, yet we can barely even muster up a few words to say to people when it comes to the things of eternity?! It seems to me that we can easily swallow our pride and fear when it comes to money, but not when it comes to obeying the Lord.

It was recently reported that one church in the USA is actually having a contest to see which member can get the most people to come to church. The winner will receieve $1,800.00!!!! What a shame! What a total abomination! Something has got to change! Our love for people and concern for their eternal destiny ought to exceed our love of money!

We need to get out of neutral and get moving. The time for action is now! We must pray that God will cultivate a love in our hearts that will help us to swallow our pride -and all our fears- so that we can go into all the world reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Here's my challenge for you in 2007:

Get your priorities straight! Get equiped! Get on fire! Get busy! No excuses!

Oh yeah. One last thing...

Dry Resolutions: Legalism in the SBC

"Do not suppose that abuses are eliminated by destroying the object which is abused. Men can go wrong with wine and women. Shall we then prohibit and abolish women?" -Martin Luther

As a man who grew up in a family where alcohol was (and is) abused, nobody has to tell me about the dangers of people becoming alcoholics. I lived in it for many years of my life! I hated every minute of it too. I have seen and experienced enough to ensure that I never want to go down that road myself. My heart goes out to everyone who has been somehow effected by the abuse of alcohol. Before I migrated to the Southern Baptist movement, I was part of a denomination that has a strict -and I mean very strict- stance on the use of alcohol in any form. I once believed that if you drank at all, you'd burn in Hell for sure!

Having said all that, it might surprise, shock, and even horrify some people that I am against the passing of a resolution condemning the manufacture, sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol at the recent Georgia Baptist Convention (and at the overall Southern Baptist Convention as well). While many Southern Baptists are patting themselves on the back for the passing of these resolutions, I honestly think it is taking our movement into dangerous, legalistic waters.

I wonder what could be next? A resolution against the Internet because people often use it for sinful purposes? How about banning Baptists from going to NASCAR races because beer is sold at the tracks? How about a resolution on watching PG-13 movies in theaters? Perhaps we need a dress code to for those sisters who do not have a sanctified sense of modesty in dress? (I wonder if the alcohol resolutions include my homemade Root-beer? After all, It has a small amount of alcohol in it because of the fermentation process!!!) I think you see my point, a line must be drawn somewhere!

Another serious problem I have with the Georgia resolution can be found in its final statement:

"Be It Therefore Finally Resolved, that we also urge Georgia Baptist churches, ministries, and individuals to continue to take a leading role in helping those in bondage to alcohol find healing in Christ, and to help heal and reunite the families that have been damaged by this disease."

Do you see a problem here? Notice that it calls alcoholism a "disease". I don't like the word "disease" because it implies that alcoholism something to be "treated" and not something that needs true repentance! To me it also implies the drunkard is a victim instead of a sinner! I have listened to drunkards who have bought into this disease theory and they have told me plainly: "I have a disease, I cannot help myself. I'll always be an alcoholic as long as I live". Let's be clear, drunkenness (the Biblical word for Alcoholism) is a SIN that requires REPENTANCE! No questions asked!

I believe most studies of alcohol always begin with the false assumption that the substance itself is inherently evil, or a creation of Satan. While the Bible strongly condemns the abuse of wine and strong drink, one cannot look objectively at all the passages in the Bible dealing with the subject, without also seeing that it has many positive things to say as well. The sobering fact is (pun intended), there were actually times that the Bible teaches the drinking of wine and strong drink was allowed as a part of worship to God! (see Deuteronomy 14:24-26 for one example)

I want to recommend a book called "Drinking with Calvin and Luther!" for an eye opening look at the history of alcohol in the church. I think if one takes an open minded look at this subject, he or she will find that this obsession with alcohol in American Christianity is unique to our culture, and not as grounded in the Scriptures as we are being lead to believe. I am sad to say this, but it appears as if Southern Baptists are now getting on a slippery slope of allowing statistics and culture to decide our doctrines and practice instead of good Biblical exegesis.

Please understand, I am not suggesting everybody needs to go out and get a six-pack of Old Milwaukee and a bottle of Boone's Farm to be a good Christian! I am not trying to justify what the Bible calls drunkenness. Let it also be known that I am not some antinomian looking for a license to sin!! If you don't drink at all, that's wonderful! If you drink in moderation, be careful! If you are a drunkard: REPENT! However, just because the drinking of alcohol is the "pet sin" of the majority of Southern Baptists, it doesn't make the legislation of teetotalism Biblical in the least!! May Southern Baptists get back to the principles of Sola Scriptura even if some of the truths we find in Scripture do not sit well in our modern "Ameri-centric" Christian culture.

If Evangelical Calvinism is an Oxymoron...

(see article)

Then could someone explain to me why I personally know Calvinists who believe in going out and knocking on doors to share the Gospel? Why are Calvinists training others to evangelize, going on missions trips, and planting churches? And why do so many of them have a fervent desire to see people saved? Why is it that the majority of the great evangelists of church history also believed and taught the Doctrines of Grace?

Lastly, why is it that I am seeing people --who I am almost 100% sure are Calvinists from reading their works and listening to their preaching-- on program at Arminian churches in order to teach them how to effectively reach the lost??

Just curious...
