Probably the greatest sermon ever preached at any youth event anywhere in the Southern Baptist Convention, and it's said he wasn't invited back! Oh how far the SBC has fallen!!

A few weekends ago, I was doing some searching on the net. Somehow I came across the website of the Southern Poverty Law Center. The SPLC was founded by Morris Dees and Joe Levin, in order to work for "civil rights" during the 70's. In addition to tracking hate groups, these days the SPLC is into promoting "tolerance" -and apparently, destroying anything that's good and moral in the world also....
As I was looking around their website, I saw something that disturbed me: on their "hate map" and on a page listing hate groups active in 2006, they have a ministry known as American Vision listed as a "general hate group"!!
When I saw AV listed, I really got concerned! I mean really, American Vision (AV), a hate group? What are these people smoking!!?? I've read books by AV's president, Gary DeMar; I've read AV's monthly magazine from cover to cover for 6 months; I read their daily emails; and I even have a 12 part DVD series featuring Gary DeMar speaking on eschatology, but I have NEVER seen one sentence that would lead me to think that the folks at American Vision hate anybody!
"American Vision must be doing something right. We have been targeted by a number of anti-Christian groups because of our stance on homosexuality. We find ourselves in the company of Focus on the Family, American Family Association, Alliance Defense Fund, Coral Ridge Ministries, Concerned Women for America, Family Research Council, Family Research Institute, and other pro-family groups. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), run by its co-founder Morris Dees, has listed us as a “hate group” under the “other” category on their website. In fact, if you add up all the people in America who support any of the above ministries, the number would be in the millions."
I love good satire.
While the article I am about to link to might read like something from Tominthebox, it's not satire at all -it's for real!

This is worse than Ergun Caner's "I'm not Arminian; I'm not Calvinist; I'm a Baptist" confession...
In the video below, please pay careful attention to what the Representative has to say about the so-called American Civil War. Not many people have a clue about what actually took place in the 1860's. Rep. Paul hits the nail on the head!!

Of all the doctrines I ever despised in the past, the doctrine of Eternal Security, or "Once Saved, Always Saved," had to be at the top of the list.
I can remember teaching Sunday school during my days in the Church of God of Prophecy, ranting and raving about how Baptists in particular "believe a person can get saved and live like the devil for the rest of their life and still go to Heaven."
To make matters worse, I could look around and see plenty of examples of Baptist folks who were not living up to the faith they professed on Sunday morning. I had seen people who professed faith in Jesus and later became hard hearted "backsliders," therefore I had all the evidence I needed to repudiate the doctrine of Eternal Security -or so I thought....
When I finally decided to investigate the doctrine of Eternal Security, it was because I saw some things in Scripture that I couldn't reconcile with my old semi-Pelagian theology. I began a journey to seek after truth, instead of what fit the mold of my theological tradition. I wanted to understand why seemingly decent Christian people believed that their salvation was eternally secure, while others seemed to use it as a cloak for their sinful living.
I began my search to understand Eternal Security by getting a copy of Charles Stanley's Eternal Security: Can You Be Sure?. I had thought Stanley would be a good source because much of what I had heard him teach sounded okay. As I read his book, some of the arguments made sense to me. Some almost convinced me. Then I hit a big snag...
The snag was in chapter 8. It was there that I could no longer follow Stanley's line of reasoning. You see, in chapter 8, Stanley argues that once a person has made a profession of faith, the person can go as far as totally losing all faith in Christ and yet be Heaven bound!
Stanley compares salvation with getting a tattoo:
"If I choose to have a tattoo put on my arm, that would involve a one-time act on my part. Yet the tattoo would remain with me indefinitely. I don't have to have to maintain an attitude of fondness of for tattoos to ensure that the tattoo remains on my arm. In fact I may change my mind the minute I receive it. But that does not change the fact that I have a tattoo on my arm. My request for the tattoo and the tattoo itself are two entirely different things. I received it by asking and paying for it, But asking for my money back and changing my attitude will not undo what is done. Forgiveness/salvation is applied at the moment of faith. And its permanence is not contingent upon the permanence of one's faith."
"And though they may, through the temptation of Satan and of the world, the prevalency of corruption remaining in them, and the neglect of means of their preservation, fall into grievous sins, and for a time continue therein, whereby they incur God's displeasure and grieve his Holy Spirit, come to have their graces and comforts impaired, have their hearts hardened, and their consciences wounded, hurt and scandalize others, and bring temporal judgments upon themselves, yet shall they renew their repentance and be preserved through faith in Christ Jesus to the end." (LBCF 17:3) emphasis added
"The perseverance of the saints could more accurately be called the preservation of the saints... The believer does not persevere through the power of his unaided will. God's preserving grace makes our perseverance both possible and actual. Even the regenerated person with a liberated will is still vulnerable to sin and temptation, and the residual power of sin is so strong that without the aid of grace the believer would, in all probability, fall away. But God's decree is immutable. His sovereign purpose to save his elect from the foundation of the world is not frustrated by our weakness"

Two well known "Baptists" want to reshape our image...?
In my totally biased opinion, these two fellows have more serious issues to worry about than what people think of Baptists...
How many people did you personally talk to about Salvation and Jesus Christ in 2006?
I'm not talking about preaching from a pulpit, inviting someone to a church function, "lifestyle evangelism", or writing a blog about the need for salvation; I am talking about genuine witnessing. Was it 1000? Maybe 100? 50? How about just 10...?
If the statistics are correct, the majority of so-called Evangelical Christians reading this blog probably didn't share the Gospel with very many people lat all ast year. Even worse, there will be some reading who didn't share the Gospel at all...
Dear Christian, why didn't you witness to more people last year? Was it due to fear of rejection? Were you just too proud? Perhaps you didn't know what to say? Maybe you just don't feel you have the "gift" of evangelism?
What if I promised you that for the next 12 months, I will give you $50.00 for every Gospel tract you hand out and $500.00 for every person that you personally witness to about Jesus Christ? Would that motivate you to do more if I could afford to pay you that much? How many tracts do you think you could give out in one week making 50 bucks each? How many people would you chase down the street each day if I would pay you $500 to witness to them personally? --I bet it would be more than you did in the past 12 months!!
Isn't it ironic that we as Christians can get jobs working as salespersons, aggravate people with multilevel marketing schemes, and do all sorts of things to make money, yet we can barely even muster up a few words to say to people when it comes to the things of eternity?! It seems to me that we can easily swallow our pride and fear when it comes to money, but not when it comes to obeying the Lord.
It was recently reported that one church in the USA is actually having a contest to see which member can get the most people to come to church. The winner will receieve $1,800.00!!!! What a shame! What a total abomination! Something has got to change! Our love for people and concern for their eternal destiny ought to exceed our love of money!
We need to get out of neutral and get moving. The time for action is now! We must pray that God will cultivate a love in our hearts that will help us to swallow our pride -and all our fears- so that we can go into all the world reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Here's my challenge for you in 2007:
Get your priorities straight! Get equiped! Get on fire! Get busy! No excuses!
Oh yeah. One last thing...

"Do not suppose that abuses are eliminated by destroying the object which is abused. Men can go wrong with wine and women. Shall we then prohibit and abolish women?" -Martin Luther
As a man who grew up in a family where alcohol was (and is) abused, nobody has to tell me about the dangers of people becoming alcoholics. I lived in it for many years of my life! I hated every minute of it too. I have seen and experienced enough to ensure that I never want to go down that road myself. My heart goes out to everyone who has been somehow effected by the abuse of alcohol. Before I migrated to the Southern Baptist movement, I was part of a denomination that has a strict -and I mean very strict- stance on the use of alcohol in any form. I once believed that if you drank at all, you'd burn in Hell for sure!
Having said all that, it might surprise, shock, and even horrify some people that I am against the passing of a resolution condemning the manufacture, sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol at the recent Georgia Baptist Convention (and at the overall Southern Baptist Convention as well). While many Southern Baptists are patting themselves on the back for the passing of these resolutions, I honestly think it is taking our movement into dangerous, legalistic waters.
I wonder what could be next? A resolution against the Internet because people often use it for sinful purposes? How about banning Baptists from going to NASCAR races because beer is sold at the tracks? How about a resolution on watching PG-13 movies in theaters? Perhaps we need a dress code to for those sisters who do not have a sanctified sense of modesty in dress? (I wonder if the alcohol resolutions include my homemade Root-beer? After all, It has a small amount of alcohol in it because of the fermentation process!!!) I think you see my point, a line must be drawn somewhere!
Another serious problem I have with the Georgia resolution can be found in its final statement:
"Be It Therefore Finally Resolved, that we also urge Georgia Baptist churches, ministries, and individuals to continue to take a leading role in helping those in bondage to alcohol find healing in Christ, and to help heal and reunite the families that have been damaged by this disease."
Do you see a problem here? Notice that it calls alcoholism a "disease". I don't like the word "disease" because it implies that alcoholism something to be "treated" and not something that needs true repentance! To me it also implies the drunkard is a victim instead of a sinner! I have listened to drunkards who have bought into this disease theory and they have told me plainly: "I have a disease, I cannot help myself. I'll always be an alcoholic as long as I live". Let's be clear, drunkenness (the Biblical word for Alcoholism) is a SIN that requires REPENTANCE! No questions asked!
I believe most studies of alcohol always begin with the false assumption that the substance itself is inherently evil, or a creation of Satan. While the Bible strongly condemns the abuse of wine and strong drink, one cannot look objectively at all the passages in the Bible dealing with the subject, without also seeing that it has many positive things to say as well. The sobering fact is (pun intended), there were actually times that the Bible teaches the drinking of wine and strong drink was allowed as a part of worship to God! (see Deuteronomy 14:24-26 for one example)
I want to recommend a book called "Drinking with Calvin and Luther!" for an eye opening look at the history of alcohol in the church. I think if one takes an open minded look at this subject, he or she will find that this obsession with alcohol in American Christianity is unique to our culture, and not as grounded in the Scriptures as we are being lead to believe. I am sad to say this, but it appears as if Southern Baptists are now getting on a slippery slope of allowing statistics and culture to decide our doctrines and practice instead of good Biblical exegesis.
Please understand, I am not suggesting everybody needs to go out and get a six-pack of Old Milwaukee and a bottle of Boone's Farm to be a good Christian! I am not trying to justify what the Bible calls drunkenness. Let it also be known that I am not some antinomian looking for a license to sin!! If you don't drink at all, that's wonderful! If you drink in moderation, be careful! If you are a drunkard: REPENT! However, just because the drinking of alcohol is the "pet sin" of the majority of Southern Baptists, it doesn't make the legislation of teetotalism Biblical in the least!! May Southern Baptists get back to the principles of Sola Scriptura even if some of the truths we find in Scripture do not sit well in our modern "Ameri-centric" Christian culture.

I think they're on to me!!
(see article)
Then could someone explain to me why I personally know Calvinists who believe in going out and knocking on doors to share the Gospel? Why are Calvinists training others to evangelize, going on missions trips, and planting churches? And why do so many of them have a fervent desire to see people saved? Why is it that the majority of the great evangelists of church history also believed and taught the Doctrines of Grace?
Lastly, why is it that I am seeing people --who I am almost 100% sure are Calvinists from reading their works and listening to their preaching-- on program at Arminian churches in order to teach them how to effectively reach the lost??
Just curious...
