DOES God Have a Wonderful Plan for Your Life??

"God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life!"

That's the message of modern Christianity, but is it the message of the Bible?

In the sobering video below, this question is discussed by Mark Kielar of CrossTV:

Go read the book of Acts and see how many times Peter addresses a crowd, leading off with "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life." I assure you, it's a pretty small number (as in zero).

More accurately, how does "You killed Jesus, the Messiah. Repent and believe in him or face eternal judgment" sound? Not so seeker sensitive, but it seems to have proved effective!

Go read the Book of Acts and see how many times Peter started off with "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life!" I'll give you a hint. It's a round, single digit number that comes before 1.

Instead, how does "You killed Jesus, the Messiah. Repent or face eternal damnation" sound? Not so seeker sensitive, but it certainly proved to be effective!

Of course, if 'happiness' and 'wonderful' are defined according to the Bible and not according to our shallow modern views, there may be some truth in the statement. But I wouldn't use it anyhow. Still, is it not 'wonderful' to die to the glory of God? Is it not 'wonderful' to be used to bring many into the Kingdom?
I've never concealed the suffering side of the Christian life from anyone. The Cross is a reality. Yet God has promised that all things work for the good of His people. And after all, is that not wonderful indeed?

Highland Host,

I agree with you there. Whatever God has planned is "wonderful".

The problem with using such a line in evangelism is that the sinner's idea of a "wonderful plan" is much different than what you or I would understand it to be.

Thanks!
